LG SMART TV SETUP

Setting Up an LG webOS Television for Streaming

LG televisions running webOS handle IPTV much like Samsung's Tizen sets: install a player from the LG Content Store, then activate it on a web page using the key shown on screen.

Before you start

  • An LG television running webOS, generally a 2018 model or newer
  • The playlist URL from your provider
  • A phone or computer for the activation step

Step-by-step

  1. Check your television

webOS sets from around 2018 onward support these players. The model details are in Settings → General → About This TV.

  2. Open the LG Content Store

Press Home on the remote and open the LG Content Store.

  3. Install a player

Search for IBO Player or another playlist-based player offered in your region, and install it.

  4. Note the device details

Open the app and record the MAC address and Device Key shown on screen.

  5. Activate on the web

Go to the activation address the app displays, enter the MAC address and device key, then add your playlist URL and save.

  6. Reopen the app

Close the app on the television and start it again. Channels and the guide now load.

  7. Arrange your categories

Hide groups you never use so the guide is faster to navigate with the Magic Remote.

Tips that save time

  • The Magic Remote's pointer is quicker than the directional pad for moving through a long channel list.
  • Turn off TruMotion for live sport — it usually looks more natural without it.
  • If the picture softens on fast action, check that the television is on a wired connection before changing any picture settings.

Questions about LG Smart TV

Which LG models work?

webOS televisions from roughly 2018 onward. Earlier sets cannot install these players and need a streaming box.

Can I use the same playlist on my phone too?

Yes. The same playlist details work in a phone player, subject to how many devices your subscription allows at once.
