Activating IBO Player on a Smart TV
IBO Player is built for Samsung and LG televisions, so it needs no external box. It works differently from phone apps: you activate it on a web page using the device key shown on your television.
Before you start
- A Samsung Tizen or LG webOS television, generally 2018 or newer
- The playlist URL from your provider
- A phone or computer, used to complete the activation step
Step-by-step
Install the app
Open your television's app store — Samsung App Store or LG Content Store — search for IBO Player and install it.
Note the details on screen
Open the app. It displays a MAC address and a Device Key. Write both down exactly, or photograph the screen.
Open the activation page
On your phone or computer, go to the activation address shown on the television screen.
Enter your device details
Type in the MAC address and device key from the television.
Add your playlist
Enter the playlist URL supplied by your provider and give it a name, then save.
Restart the app
Close IBO Player on the television and reopen it. Your channels and categories now load.
Check the guide
The programme guide fills in shortly after the channel list. If it does not appear, reopen the app once more.
Tips that save time
- The device key is tied to that specific television. Replacing the set means activating again with the new key.
- Keep a note of the MAC address somewhere safe — it is needed for any later playlist change.
- If the app will not install, your television may predate the app's supported models; a small streaming box is the usual way round it.
Questions about IBO Player
Is there a charge for IBO Player?
The app is developed independently of any subscription and usually charges a one-off activation fee to its own developer. That is separate from what you pay your provider.
How do I change the playlist later?
Return to the same activation page, sign in with the same MAC address and device key, and edit the playlist URL. Restart the app on the television afterwards.
The app is not in my television's store — what now?
Older Tizen and webOS models are not supported. An inexpensive Android TV box or Firestick plugged into the same television gives you the full choice of players.
